How it works

PACT works by applying a blue dye to the fungal nail, which makes the cells sensitive to light at a certain wave length. The nail will then be exposed to light that activates the dye, killing the fungal cells beneath without causing harm to the healthy nail tissues. Plus it is highly effective and has no side effects!

The treatment plan

1. Fungal Nail Assessment

Our podiatrists will administer diagnostic testing to confirm the presence of a fungal infection.

Once confirmed, our podiatrist will remove as much of the infected unhealthy toenail as possible and provide you with a treatment pack containing:

40% Urea Cream
Opsite Occlusive Dressing
Fungal skin treatment to reduce the risk of cross contamination
Dr Remedy Healing Hydration Moisture Treatment
Information flyer outlining the contents, how and when to use them.

2. PACT Sessions

The evidence based protocol is 3 treatments spread one week apart. In rare cases, an additional protocol (3 treatments) is required on very severe nails.

Session times will depend on the number of nails being treated.

3. Review Appointment

The review appointment is scheduled 12 weeks following the last PACT treatment. This appointment is to re-assess the nail to ensure the healthy nail is growing out.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments required will depend on the severity of your infection. As a guide we recommend the following:

Mild & Moderate

1 Protocol = 3 x PACT sessions
1 review session, 3 months post therapy.

Severe

1 Protocol = 3 x PACT sessions
1 review session, usually 3 months post therapy. You will most likely require one further follow up PACT session at the 3 month review.
In rare cases, a second protocol (another 3 PACT sessions) may be required.

What is the cost of PACT?

Our package including the initial fungal toenail removal assessment and 3 x PACT sessions begins at $549 depending on your health fund. This does not include your health fund rebate.

Can I use my private health insurance for PACT?

Yes, we accept all private health insurers.

Are there any side effects of PACT?

There are no known side effects of PACT making it a great alternative to oral medications. Repeated exposure to the light does not produce any negative effects and no pain is felt throughout each treatment.

Following each PACT session, your nail may retain a blue discolouration from the gel, however this will fade in the days following treatment.
